Clinical Pharmacy

 

A brief background:

The clinical pharmacy program is a program meets the students’ aspirations. This program aims at graduating a distinguished pharmacist aware of all the requirements of this career, the latest branches of pharmacology and all the modern techniques which qualifies him /her to work in general and private pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies and factories, drug control laboratories, food analysis, in addition to working in media, drug marketing and research centers.

What is distinguished and new about this program is the role of the pharmacist in offering the proper health care to the patients inside and outside hospitals, through following up the suitable drug system for the patient and studying the principles of clinical pharmacokinetics and its applications in curing the patient cases. Study in the program is in English but some courses can be taught in Arabic on the basis of the recommendation of the department and the approval of faculty council.

 NOTE:

The program is a credit hours system. The academic year is divided into two semesters and each semester lasts for 15 weeks. Some courses can be studied in a summer semester (6-8) weeks of intensive study

The credit hour is an academic measuring unit. It means one academic hour a week or a two -hour practical lesson a week for 15 weeks

The academic degree:

The university grants the bachelor degree in the clinical pharmacy following the approval of the council of Faculty of pharmacy.

Registration:

The program assigns an academic tutor of the staff members for every group of students. This tutor advises the students and looks after the academic, social and psychological welfare of the students.

 He or she also offers advice to the students in choosing the courses.

Every student must register the courses which he or she will study in every semester and the number of hours should be decided in coordination with the academic tutor

Regulations and bylaws of the program

Granting the clinical pharmacy bachelor requires the following:

First: completing 194 credit hours over ten semesters divided into:

University requirements: 11 credit hours

Obligatory faculty requirements: 179 credit hours

Optional faculty requirements: 6 hours

Second:  a practical training not less than 200 hours under the supervision of staff members in a pharmaceutical institution

100 credit hours of clinical training in one of the educational hospitals

Admission rules:

Applicants must meet the requirements of the supreme council of universities. Following the approval of the university council, the faculty council can accept the applicants with a B.Sc. from the faculty of Science (chemistry or Biology B.Sc.), the faculty of veterinary, the faculty of medicine, the faculty of agriculture, and the faculty of nursing according to the conditions set by the faculty council and approval by the university council.

The students can be exempted from the courses they studied during the first degree according to the regulations set by the faculty.

Students at other Egyptian or foreign Universities can be transferred to study in the program on meeting the requirements of joining the faculty. The students can be exempted from the courses he/she studies at the faculty he/she transfers from according to the conditions and bylaws set by the faculty.
